IICO realized
the importance of establishing a center for philanthropy
studies where theoretical and applied research are
conducted in the light of the experience of developed
countries in this field.
In advanced
countries there are research institutes, educational
centers, colleges and universities that offer programs,
courses and degrees in philanthropy studies.
The huge
programs and vast development in this sector reached in
the western countries had improved tremendously the
charitable activities and the performance of the
charitable organizations in these countries in the last
few decades.
However, in
the Middle East region and other parts of the world
charitable organizations and charitable activities have
no or little scientific basis.
IICO has
established a center for charitable studies which is
located in Kuwait. The center is aiming for excellence
in the philanthropy activities.
The mission of IICO's center for philanthropy studies is
to:
-
Introduce
the newly developed philanthropy theory and
practices to workers and organizations in the Middle
East and developing countries.
-
Develop
philanthropy systems and practices that suit the
cultural needs of different regions and countries in
the third world.
To reach these goals, the center is planned to serve the
following functions:
-
Conducting
scientific studies, research and statistics in the
field of Philanthropy.
-
Organizing
training programs and courses for workers in
charitable activities.
-
Providing
continuing education to volunteers and workers in
charitable organizations through seminars,
conferences, and workshops in different philanthropy
disciplines and activities and fund raising
practices.
-
Offering
solutions and improvement based on applied research
and academic studies, for organizations working in
philanthropy fields to help them manage their
activities efficiently.
-
Taking part
in public affairs on issues related to philanthropy
practices and traditions in order to increase public
awareness, understanding, and participation in
philanthropy processes and fund raising practices to
obtain effective voluntary support for charitable
organizations.
-
Issue
specialized magazines, periodicals, booklets and
books in charitable disciplines.
-
Introduce
curriculums in philanthropy to colleges and
universities to help providing qualified workers.
-
Establish
in due course credited institutes or colleges for
philanthropy. Cooperate with all research and
pertinent centers, institutes, colleges in the same
field.
