IICO to continue its march in accordance
with the strategy adopted by General Assembly

IICO Board of Directors elected former Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and adviser at the Emiri Diwan, Dr. Maatouq Abdullah, as board Chairman. The General Assembly, also, elected 21 members to IICO board of directors. Their names are listed below in the order of voting: Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, the Undersecretary Ministry of Awqaf Dr. Adel Falah, Dr. Omar Nassif, Adviser Abdul Rahman Sawar Al-Dhahab, Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq, Dr. Fuad Al-Omar, Abdul Rahman bin Aqeel, Abdullah Al-Aqeel, Ahmed Al-Haj Mohammed, Dr. Zaghloul Al-Najjar, Nader Nouri, Ahmed Saad Al-Jasser, Abdulrahman Al Mahmood, Abdulaziz Al-Subaie, Saleh Wohaibi, Omar Kasouti from Uganda, Mohamed Abdarrahman Al-Bakr, Sheikh Ahmed Limo from Nigeria, Dr. Issam al-Bashir from Sudan, Dr Jassim Mohalhal Al-Yassin and Dr. Khalid Al-Mazkoor.
Mohammad Siddique of Indonesia,Khurshid Ahmed of Pakistan and Abdul Qader Al-Ajeel of Kuwait were nominated as extra members. The Board of Directors recommended Dr. Abdullah Omar Nassif of Saudi Arabia as Vice Chairman, Dr. Fouad Al-Omar of Kuwait as treasurer and
Abdul Rahman bin Aqeel Al-Aqeel of Saudi Arabia as secretary.
The former chairman of IICO, Yousof Al-Hajji apologized for not seeking
nomination for another term despite
the intense pressure exerted on him by
the Board of Directors and the General Assembly. He insisted on giving up the post of IICO chairman after having
been its top ranking founder and the
leader of its successful march for a period of 25 years making it a well-known name in the field of charitable work. During this period, the IICO
implemented and sponsored lots of
development and relief projects for
poor Muslims in over 136 countries
around the world.
Charitable work, with its lofty goals, to gain further grounds in the days to
come In his first statement, the IICO chairman Dr. Abdallah Al-Maatouq said that His Highness the Emir’s
honourable presence at IICO celebrations was an honour from the top political leadership to Kuwait’s icons of charitable work. Al-Maatouq said the honour of His
Highness the Emir Sheikh Sabah
Al-Ahmed and his presence andsponsorship of the celebrations is apractical implementation of his oft-quoted saying «the work of charity isa crown on our heads».
Al Maatouq praised the role playedby the IICO’s former leader and its founder Yousof Al-Hajji for the past 25 years and his desire to make roomfor the young blood to take the IICO’s march forward. He commended its role in the area of development insideKuwait and abroad.
Dr. Al-Maatouq prayed Almighty Allah to help him carry the heavy
responsibility entrusted to him by
the members of the IICO General Assembly and Board of Directors.
He pledged with Allah to continue to walk on the same path drawn by
the former chairman and his brothers who accompanied him throughout the
march of hard work in the service of Islam and Muslims in all parts of the
globe. He expressed his sincere thanks
to the members of the IICO General Assembly and its Board of Directors
for the trust placed in him, noting
that the former chairman Yousof Al-Hajji will continue as Chairman
Emeritus and an advisor, underlining that his guidance and advice were
indispensable to continue the march
to the highest levels.
Al-Maatouq underlined that the IICO would continue its march in accordance with the strategy
adopted by its General Assembly, besides continuing cooperation and
coordination with all concerned authorities such as the Ministries of Awqaf, Finance and Media as well as the charitable organizations and committees within the country and
abroad.

Al-Hajji calls to give space to young blood
to carry on the march and push it forward
He said the mission of charitable work with its lofty objectives will be further
strengthened during the days to come,
by the implementation of protocols,
agreements and treaties signed with all
parties. Communication with donors
will also be improved, he noted.
Dr. Al-Maatouq said that the IICO would continue the ongoing mission
of spreading awareness about and
dissemination of the moderate thinking
through conferences, seminars and media, stressing that Islam had nothing to do with terrorism, as
Islam’s tolerant teachings were based on its values and principles.
Born in 1957, Dr. Al-Maatouq started his career with the Department of
Passport soon after completing his
secondary education. Later on, he
continued his studies and went to Saudi Arabia where he obtained his master’s from Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University to be followed
by a doctorate from Scotland.
He taught at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.
He was appointed as the Minister of
Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in June 2003 and in February 2006 he was
sworn in as the Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. He was reappointed in July 2006 to
the government which was headed
by Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and was again appointed by the government of
March 2007. He was one of seven Muslim Scholars honoured by the Egyptian President
Hosni Mubarak with the Order of Arts and Sciences of First Class in 2005.
